Jen Psaki’s Move to MSNBC Is Deemed “Too Fast”

One of the hottest stories at the White House these days is where White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is headed after she leaves 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Cable news shows have been abuzz ever since it was leaked that Psaki would be headed to the Peacock Network with little to no break in between jobs.

On Monday, CNN’s “Reliable Sources” examined this dynamic with host Brian Stelter leading the discussion along with panelists Oliver Darcey and journalist Claire Atkinson.

“There should be a period of time where you off into industry and then you come back and perhaps then you go to TV,” Atkinson said, “but this move seems too fast to me.”

Atkinson said she believes there should be a cooling-off period whenever a press secretary leaves the position.  Darcey added that the move to acquire Psaki has left some employees at the current network feeling very upset.

“Some people at the network feel like it might tarnish the NBC News brand,” he added.

For the record, Psaki has not confirmed the move to the Peacock Network. Last week, Darcy reported that those at NBC News aren’t thrilled about the news, considering Psaki is still in her position at the White House.

Psaki briefly discussed her future last Friday, while assuring the White House press corps that she was abiding by ethical guidelines in her search for her next opportunity.

“I have done – have taken the ethics legal requirements, to the highest, very seriously, in any discussions in any considerations of any future employment, just as any White House official would, and I’ve taken steps beyond that to ensure there’s no conflicts,” she said.
