Could freelance commentator and activist Keith Olbermann be the one to replace Chris Cuomo? According to The Wrap, network officials recently met with Olbermann “about a role.”
Given the news about the demise of CNN+, several high-profile names are being thrown around as opportunities to get involved have significantly decreased.
Chris Wallace, who left Fox News to join CNN+ appeared to be the likely candidate to replace Cuomo but Wallace’s future is in doubt after last week’s news. Former MSNBC anchor Brian Williams is another name being tossed around as a replacement for Cuomo.
New CNN boss Chris Licht could reportedly move to restore the network back to its original form as a more middle-of-the-road news gathering agency.
Last week, Olbermann rushed to the defense of CNN, tweeting the difference between CNN and CNN+. “I know it’s not easy for you to understand things like this, but CNN and CNN+ are two different things. Ask an adult.”
Last month, he used Twitter to extinguish rumors that he was coming back to MSNBC to replace Rachel Maddow who is focusing her attention on other projects.
Meanwhile, Wallace was reportedly irate following Jeff Zucker’s sudden resignation in February. Wallace felt cheated when Zucker walked out the door amid an inappropriate relationship with former executive Allison Gollust.
