Newly crowned Twitter owner Elon Musk has a few thoughts about former President Donald Trump’s TRUTH Social; a new platform that Trump launched in February.
TRUTH has moved to the top of the App Store rankings. Trump started TRUTH in response to his permanent ban from Twitter following the Jan. 6 riots.
“Truth Social (terrible name) exists because Twitter censored free speech,” tweeted Musk on Wednesday. He added that Trump’s platform should be called, “Trumpet.”
Musk’s acquisition of Twitter this week for a reported $44 billion puts him in direct competition with Trump who has professed admiration for Musk in the past.
“I am not going on Twitter; I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump told Fox News. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it, and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”
Musk has asked his biggest critics to remain on Twitter even if they disagree with him. He sent a statement this week regarding Twitter’s role in society.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” said Musk in a statement from the company announcing the acquisition.
