Drew Brees Reportedly Set To Exit NBC

There will be no second chapter in the story of Drew Brees at NBC. Andrew Marchand reports that the former Saints quarterback will not return to the network for the 2022 football season.

“The decision seemed mutual as Brees preferred doing games over the Football Night in America studio show, and NBC didn’t have many NFL games to offer him,” Marchand writes for The New York Post.

Marchand was among the many this time last year that were predicting Mike Tirico and Drew Brees were the future of Sunday Night Football. While NBC never officially acknowledged that was its plan, the network did give Brees a contract before he retired from the NFL. That seemed to indicate there were bigger plans for him than simply filling a seat on a pregame show.

On Sunday night, Brees took to Twitter to dispute the report. He said that at this point nothing is decided.

He has been mentioned several times as a potential partner for Kevin Burkhardt in FOX’s top NFL booth. Marchand’s story notes that FOX has already begun negotiations with Greg Olsen to keep him with Burkhardt.

Drew Brees drew largely negative reviews as a game analyst last season. He called both NFL and Notre Dame games for NBC last season.
