One of the first major decisions that CNN President Chris Licht had to make even before officially taking over the position, was to pull the plug on CNN+. So now his next major shakeup will be tacking the network’s morning show.
Licht states the cable news channel intends to “reimagine” its morning program this fall to shake up the market during his presentation at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upfronts on Wednesday.
“We will reimagine our morning show leveraging our correspondents and unmatched resources in the U.S. and around the world to provide news that viewers need to know as they start their day,” Licht said, per The Wrap.
“[To] be honest there, we are seeking to be a disrupter of the broadcast morning shows in this space, and we believe we have the people and resources who can do it.”
These remarks didn’t come in much detail. Still, it is a common understanding that CNN is behind some of its competitors for morning news, and this area appears to be Licht’s first crack at reshaping the company in his vision, whether that means anchors exiting and new ones coming in remains to be seen.
