Former “Daily Show” host and passionate veteran’s rights advocate, Jon Stewart, spoke out against the lack of physical support shown at the “Rolling to Remember” event in Washington D.C this past weekend.
According to the official website, the three-day event hosted by AMVETS, seeks to raise awareness about veteran suicide and 80,000 plus veterans that are missing. The event culminates in a motorcycle demonstration ride around D.C.
Stewart observed the lack of veteran presence in the crowd.
“The people sitting behind me — it’s hard not to be here today and not get frustrated again,” said Stewart. “Because as I look out in the crowd, I see the same thing I always see: Veterans and their families and caregivers.”
According to Mediate, Stewart went on to say that he receives plenty of verbal support for advocating for veterans but when it comes time to show up, people for short.
“This is Memorial Day weekend. Man, you’re going to read the tweets this weekend,” said Stewart. You’re going to look at the Facebook pages and you’re going to think to yourself, ‘Oh, does America love me. Boy, they love us,’” he said.
“You’re going to go to Applebee’s. They’re going to give you baby back ribs. Probably 20% off, not even 10%, because of how much they support you.”
“But where are the American people?” He added.
