95.5 WSB is losing its longtime news director. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chris Camp has decided to call it quits after nearly three decades at the station.
Camp told the paper that he made the call around Christmas and that, “It has been, without a lie, a terrific run.”
“Atlanta Morning News” host Scott Slade reacted to Camp’s retirement, telling the AJC that Camp had a way with people.
“He always wanted to tell the true story but also find angles that helped people and informed them to make good decisions,” said Slate.
Assistant news director Amanda Moyer will take the reins in the news department. She has been overseeing the morning news show for more than a decade.
“If we needed to have coverage on a weekend, he’d be the first one in the door,” said former WSB program director Pete Spriggs. “If he asked you to go the extra mile, he went five miles. When it came to stamina and energy, he outdid everybody.”
Former WSB anchor Mark Alewine lauded Camp’s passion for the job and his fellow employees.
“News is a serious business, but Chris never really took it so seriously that it absorbed him,” Alewine said. “He wanted his employees to have fun at work and wanted them to enjoy what they were doing.”
“Congrats Chris, on a great career. Enjoy the fruits,” tweeted Atlanta news anchor Russ Spencer.
