President Joe Biden has nominated Radio executive Diane Kaplan to head the Board of the Corporations for Public Broadcasting (CPB), per Inside Radio.
CPB is a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967 and is the steward of the government’s investment in public broadcasting.
Kaplan previously served as the CEO of Alaska Public Radio, a network with 28 stations across the state and a central newsroom in Anchorage.
The White House said Kaplan’s philanthropy raised the bar for fundraising in the nonprofit sector. “Before joining the Foundation, Kaplan provided consulting services for philanthropic organizations, Native corporations and tribes, and nonprofit organizations.”
U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, both R-Alaska, sent a letter to Biden recommending Kaplan to the board.
“I have every confidence she will serve as an incredible representative for our great state as well as the country,” Senator Murkowski said in a statement.
Kaplan serves on the board of United States Artists and is a member of the Anchorage Homelessness Leadership Council, Anchorage Rotary Club, the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco community advisory council, and Recover Alaska’s governance council.
