Last Friday marked the end of an era in the Milwaukee market. Radio veteran Jane Matenaer, co-host at Good Karma Brand news WTMJ (620), broadcasted her final show on the station according to The Milwaukee Business Journal.
Matenaer said that her time in the market has “been a wonderful, wonderful experience.” Matenaer co-hosted “Wisconsin’s Morning News” with Gene Mueller for six years until Mueller’s February retirement.
“In radio, we tend to get disappeared,” Matenaer said. “… I’ve been fired a couple of times, and you never get to say goodbye.” Good Karma Brands VP/Market Manager Steve Wexler said that Matenaer “let us know that she felt it was time to move on.”
He continued by saying that Matenaer “has been an important contributor to WTMJ for seven years and a welcome voice in Milwaukee radio for over 40 years. We are so appreciative of her work, including reporting, anchoring, and hosting.”
Regarding her future, she stated that retirement isn’t in the radio host’s plans and is currently “exploring some options” to remain in the media industry.
Matenaer announced on Monday that she’s joining WAUK from noon-2pm.
