When the Austin American-Statesman and KVUE shared a leaked four-minute of the 77-minute surveillance video they acquired from Robb Elementary School on the day of the Uvalde shooting, it showed what occurred in those hallways on that day.
However, for some like “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg, it didn’t sit right that the publication opted to share before it is supposed to show this Sunday. Nevertheless, those reporting on the matter have stood by their decision.
“This is not a decision that we have taken lightly,” reporter Tony Plohetski said, per CNN. “We have carefully considered what we are doing here. We found ourselves in a position — once we obtained this video — that we similarly did not feel it was in our interest to withhold it from the public.”
“We’re doing this for these people,” anchor Bryan Mays said. “For their families in Uvalde, for the people of the city, and really the people of the state of Texas who have been desperate to learn what happened inside that school back in May.”
Regardless, Goldberg’s remarks could be shared by some who might disagree with the publication opting not to wait until Sunday when officials would show the video first to the victim’s families.
“This was released, but the paper is defending their decision. I find it indefensible. I’m sorry. You forgot that attached to all those sounds are people’s children, and you didn’t have to do this,” Goldberg said.
“Every time you turn around, you got to see it, you know! And I don’t know if you guys over at that newspaper have kids, but shame on you! I know it doesn’t mean anything coming from me, but shame on you!”
