Colin Dunlap & Chris Mack: ‘Early Finish Is Best Thing About Open Championship’

Cameron Smith’s run to The Open Championship Sunday was described by analyst Brandel Chamblee as “one of the greatest come-from-behind rounds we have ever seen in major championship history”. It made for riveting television, but the early morning to early afternoon time window was one of the best reasons to watch according to Colin Dunlap and Chris Mack of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh on Monday morning.

“Everything was over by 2:00,” Mack said. “Oh, I have the rest of my day? I can flip over and watch the entire Pirate game now? This is amazing! Why don’t we do this more often?!”

Final Round coverage of The Open Championship began at 4:00 AM on USA Network, with coverage shifting to NBC and Peacock at 7:00 AM.

Mack added “a lot of people don’t like, and I don’t know why, but they don’t like the NFL games in Europe, in London or there will be one in Munich this year. Give it to me. Gimme one of those every week, man. I will get up and I will watch football with a 9:30 kick every single Sunday.”

“The British (Open Championship) every year allows you that day,” Dunlap said. “You can go out and you can play golf after. You can go get the early morning tee time and come home and see the leaders kinda finish up. Play the last six holes or so.”

NBC Sports reported the first two rounds of the tournament were the most watched on record.
