“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver took a dig at Fox News on Sunday for the network’s coverage regarding the FBI raiding former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
The Justice Department removed 11 sets of classified documents from Trump’s residence while executing a search warrant for possible infractions of the Espionage Act and additional crimes.
As a result, the comedian took a shot at Fox News and some vocal Republicans during his opening monologue for trying to play down the investigation.
“I am not going to speculate or jump to conclusions here because there is still so much that we don’t know,” Oliver said, per Deadline.
“Many seem more than happy to do that this week, with multiple Republicans liking the FBI to the Gestapo, Fox News trolling through the Facebook feed of the judge who approved the warrant and showing a meme of his face on Jeffrey Epstein’s body, and still others, candidly minimizing what Trump may have done.”
Coverage over the raid on Mar-a-Lago will likely continue this week as more information surfaces on where this investigation is heading, providing plenty of reaction from both sides of the aisle.
