Millennials, Gen Z Consume More News Than Expected

A recent survey conducted by the Media Insight Project reveals a surprising number of millennials and Gen Z consume news.

79% of those surveyed between the ages of 16-40 receive news daily. However, 32% say they don’t find the news enjoyable or entertaining. 53% of respondents in 2015 said they did enjoy or were entertained by the news.

37% said they talk with their friends or family about the news, down from 53% in 2015. 61% said they want news to be fair to all sides, 69% say they want the news to verify and get facts correct, and 57% expect news outlets to be neutral.

Social Media has seen a drop in prevalence as a news source, with 40% saying they get news from Facebook, down from 57% in 2015. Only 32% of those aged 16-24 said they used Facebook for news. YouTube (37%) and Instagram (34%) both surpassed Facebook in that age range.

6,000 people were surveyed in the report.
