According to a story from Owen Poindexter of Front Office Sports, Major League Baseball wants games broadcasted by regional sports networks added to MLB.TV.
Due to blackout restrictions, games produced by regional sports networks are unavailable to subscribers in-market, as are national broadcasts. MLB’s goal is to change that.
MLB Chief Revenue Officer Noah Garden told Sports Business Journal “I hope at one point to have in-market (streaming) available”.
MLB.TV, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, brings in $430 million in revenue for the league annually. Meanwhile, Bally Sports+, the $19.99 streaming platform offered by Sinclair-owned Diamond Sports, hopes to also add Major League Baseball rights to its streaming offerings. The Rays, Marlins, Brewers, Tigers, and Royals all currently have their games included on Bally Sports+.
