CNN’s “Inside Politics Sunday with Abby Phillip” has a new executive producer as the cable news channel appointed Kirk McDonald to the position (h/t TV Newser).
McDonald brings plenty of experience to the position, having served as the senior broadcast producer for “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” since 2020. Before that, he spent 12 years as the supervising producer on “Anderson Cooper 360.”
Along with his television credentials that have seen him work on two major shows for CNN, McDonald is the winner of two News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
With the announcement of McDonald coming aboard the Sunday show, Abby Philip, who has been anchoring the Sunday morning show since 2021, also tweeted the news, saying she’s “looking forward to this new chapter with Kirk, who is a brilliant person, and all around a great person.”
“Inside Politics” has been in the news recently due to CNN opting to re-run the program at 11 a.m. ET slot that used to be occupied by “Reliable Sources,” which was canceled and led to the ousting of its host Briant Stelter.
