Despite having a failed bid for California governor, former nationally-syndicated radio talk show host Larry Elder might not be done with politics.
In early August, Elder stated that he was giving a 2024 Presidential bid “strong consideration.”
On Thursday, Elder spoke with The Daily Wire about having visited the first battleground in the run for the highest office, Iowa, and says he was welcomed with open arms by voters, politicians, and donors.
“If you’re going to run for president, the Iowa State Fair is kind of a rite of passage,” Elder told the media outlet. “So, I went and I was kind of overwhelmingly surprised by the gracious reception.
“I met with the Governor of Iowa. I met with [the] Lieutenant Governor. I met with a number of local politicians and I met with some pretty deep-pocketed donors. Nobody felt that it was an outlandish kind of thing to consider.”
Elder also discussed how the political bug had bitten him, and it’s something he has enjoyed, which is a surprise.
“I didn’t think I would like politics,” Elder revealed. “I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I was surprised at how good I was at it.
“And in about seven and a half weeks which is when I got into the race, with only that much time left. I raised around $22 million — more than all of the major rivals combined.”
It will be interesting to see if Elder decides to put his hat in the race for a possible presidential run in 2024.
