The oldest radio station in Sacramento is celebrating 100 years on the air. KFBK News Radio launched on Sept. 17, 1922, and to commemorate the milestone, the iHeartMedia-owned station has a series of events lined up.
On Friday, the first event will occur as KFBK will have a special broadcast on its history on Friday. Then, on Oct. 21, the station will host an event at the Scottish Rite Center (h/t Sacramento Bee).
“Since September of 1922, KFBK has been serving the Sacramento Valley with news, information and entertainment that keeps people tuned to their radios,” the statement said for the event in October.
“Now in 2022, we are celebrating 100 years of reporting on Sacramento’s history and bringing you major events of the day as they happen, whether here or around the world.
KFBK is the second oldest news provider in the city and has had a close relationship with the Sacramento Bee, considering it was part of the McClatchy family’s portfolio of news organizations for much of its history, which also owned the newspaper.
For several years, the newspaper and radio station worked out of connecting buildings on the corner of 7th and I streets in downtown Sacramento.
