Trevor Noah Exits ‘The Daily Show’ After Seven Years

After seven years of hosting “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central, Trevor Noah is stepping away from the position. On Thursday’s edition of “The Daily Show,” Noah announced that his time is up hosting the comedy news show.

“I just found myself filled with gratitude for the journey,” Noah said told his audience. “It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected. And I found myself thinking throughout the time, everything we’ve gone through, the Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey of the more pandemic.”

“And I realized that after the seven years, my time is up. Yeah. But in the most beautiful way. Honestly, I’ve loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys.”

Noah did state the reason for his decision which is wanting to be out on the road as a stand-up comedian and the travel that comes with performing shows in different cities and countries.

“But after seven years, I feel like it’s time,” Noah added. “I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road. Stand-up was done, and when I got back out there again, I realized there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring.

“I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss being everywhere, doing everything.”

It was not immediately apparent when his actual departure would occur or if the Paramount Global cable network had begun to consider a successor.

“We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on next steps,” the network said in a statement (h/t Variety).

“As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of ‘The Daily Show’ as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them.”
