Colin Dunlap: John Sterling Did ‘Great Job’ On Aaron Judge Home Run Call

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run of the season last night, and Yankees radio announcer John Sterling was on the call for the moment. He received praise from Colin Dunlap of The Fan Morning Show on Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan Wednesday.

“He actually did a great job with that call, I thought. I don’t think it was too hokey,” Dunlap said after playing the highlight of Sterling’s call.

“You don’t think he went on too long?”, co-host Chris Mack questioned.

“At the end, he did. But here’s the thing, there’s no action. He took the field. So it wasn’t like the next batter was walking to the plate,” Dunlap countered. “They swarmed him. The play was stopped. I think he got the call in — the particulars — and then he got the window dressing in at the end. I think Sterling did really well with that. I don’t think he fouled it up. I think if you played that in history — and it’s just the American League home run record, it is what it is — but if you played that nobody is gonna go ‘Oh my gosh, he really screwed that play up’. I thought he did pretty well.”

Dunlap’s comments came after he sarcastically said Sterling had previous experience announcing historic home runs, saying the 84-year-old “was there for Ruth’s 60th and Maris’ 61st”.
