This MLB postseason has already seen its share of notable games and moments. However, there’s one happening right now in the broadcast booth that’s worthy of attention.
On Thursday, Mark Berman captured a photograph of Astros manager Dusty Baker posing with the radio voice of his team, Robert Ford and the radio voice of the Seattle Mariners. Not only is it a photograph of the two teams’ radio voices, it’s also a photo of history. The series between the Mariners and Astros is the first MLB playoff series to feature a Black broadcaster from each team.
Ford is well aware of the history and is quoted by Berman in his tweet, adding even more context to the event.
“There are only two African-American play-by-play broadcasters in the Majors,” Ford said, “and there have only been four ever.”
