Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre believes he has done nothing wrong regarding his involvement in a welfare investigation in Mississippi. Additionally, the 53-year-old says the media is smearing his name.
“I have been unjustly smeared in the media,” Favre conveyed in the statement, which Fox News Digital published Tuesday. “I have done nothing wrong, and it is past time to set the record straight.”
With Favre wanting to set the record straight and defend himself from what he calls a smear campaign from the media, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle is issuing an open invitation to come on the “11th Hour.”
“If the media is getting the @BrettFavre scandal wrong, I hope he accepts my invitation to join me on @11thHour to clear things up,” Ruhle tweeted on Tuesday.
A Mississippi state audit revealed that $77 million in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds were shifted, and his alma mater, Southern Miss, received $5 million in TANF money.
“No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me,” Favre added.
“I tried to help my alma mater USM [University of Southern Mississippi], a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university.”
