Fox Weather’s Katie Garner probably escaped serious injury or death while filming Thursday in storm-ravaged Wilbur-by-The-Sea, Florida.

“I was standing on this very beach doing a live shot,” she said. “My photographer Jeff was standing on that dock filming the live shot. Today, about 30 minutes ago, we had a crew, and I was shooting an Instagram video, 10 feet before this house collapsed.”

According to the network, Garner joined FOX Weather as a digital meteorologist in December after previously serving at FOX affiliate WGHP-TV in Greensboro, North Carolina where she served as a meteorologist.

“What it (collapse) did was put things into perspective,” Garner. “You can be in one spot one day and the next day, it’s devastating.”

Tropical Storm Nicole made landfall as a category 1 hurricane on the east coast of Florida with sustained winds of 70 mph. According to Fox Weather, Hurricane Nicole is the first to make landfall in November.

“We heard a very minor creak,” Garner explained. “There was no indication that the house was about to collapse.”

“The storm is rampant; it is destructive, and it will kill you if you’re not careful.”
