Atlanta-based talk show host Erick Erickson revealed in a Substack post Tuesday that his political support for former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin cost him an opportunity as a Fox News Contributor.
Erickson peeled back the curtain while writing about Sen. Mitch McConnell’s battle to retain his leadership role in the Republican party.
“I was one of the very few conservatives to support Rick Scott when he ran for Governor in Florida,” he wrote. “He has a compelling story and bio. He was a good businessman. He was a good governor and is a fine senator.”
According to Erickson, he supported Bevin’s challenge to McConnell in Kentucky’s primary in 2014.
“I got taken off Fox News because of it. They paid me and would not give me airtime,” Erickson wrote. “Roger Ailes had a relationship with McConnell and McConnell’s wife sat on the board. Roger said he was tired of Elaine Chao yelling at him.”
According to the Associated Press, Sen. McConnell was reelected as Republican leader Wednesday, quashing a challenge from Sen. Rick Scott of Florida.
“This effort to oust McConnell is poorly timed. It only provides more drama for the press to salivate over a Republican civil war right before a runoff in Georgia,” he added.
