Twitter No Longer Enforcing COVID-19 Misinformation Policy

At the height of COVID-19, Twitter rolled out a feature regarding a misinformation policy that flagged news content on the virus and vaccine if it was false. However, under Elon Musk, that’s gone away.

Twitter did not appear to announce the rule modification formally. Instead, some Twitter users Monday night spotted a note added to the page on Twitter’s website that outlines its Covid policy.

“Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the COVID-19 misleading information policy,” the note read.

The social media platform’s stance on misinformation comes on the heels of Musk vowing to restore many previously banned Twitter accounts as soon as this week. Some of the 11,000 banned under Twitter’s former Covid misinformation rules will possibly be among the restored accounts.

Musk has had a run-in with Twitter’s COVID-19 policy; back in March and April 2020, Musk downplayed the magnitude of the crisis and expressed frustration with how the pandemic had been handled.
