NBC News has temporarily removed tech reporter Ben Collins from coverage of Twitter after his coverage didn’t meet the network’s “editorial standards”.
According to a report from Semafor’s Max Tani, the network quietly removed Collins from coverage of Twitter and its purchase from Elon Musk after tweets Collins sent were hyper critical of the billionaire.
Collins mocked Musk’s ignorance on who the company’s general counsel was. The network reportedly took issue with the early December tweet, saying it was not editorially appropriate”.
In response, NBC News and MSNBC blacklisted Collins from appearing in on-screen discussions or reporting on the matter. However, on social media, Collins has continued to be critical of Musk.
Several news organizations are struggling with how to properly utilize Twitter during it’s current volatility. CNN has announced it will “reevaluate” its stance on the platform after several prominent journalists saw their accounts suspended Thursday.
