Sid Rosenberg, Former Partner Scott Kaplan Reminisce on 77 WABC

New York City is home to big stars, bright lights, and historic reunions. For 77 WABC Radio host Sid Rosenberg, the latter is true. Rosenberg shared Monday his journey in the radio business which included a stop in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with an internet sports company called “SportsLine USA.”

Rosenberg said there he met Scott Kaplan, a former kicker at the University of Pittsburgh. Kaplan’s career path led him to Miami and eventually to “SportsLine USA” where he discovered Rosenberg. At the time, Rosenberg had been released from drug rehab and was answering phones for minimum wage.

On Monday, Rosenberg was reunited with Kaplan on WABC’s Sid and Friends in The Morning more than two decades after the pair had a falling out and stayed at odds for years.

“This internet radio show teamed me up with Scott Kaplan,” said Rosenberg. “In one year, we went from doing internet radio, to doing terrestrial radio, syndicated, at one point on Westwood One in almost 70 markets.”

Rosenberg said in 2000, Sports Fan Radio Network traded the duo for fantasy sports advertising to 102.7 FM WNEW in New York City.

“It didn’t last,” Rosenberg recalled. “Scott and I were at each other’s throats, the show was terrible, and they fired him (Kaplan) and brought in a guy named Craig Carton and Scott moved out to San Diego.”

During Kaplan’s appearance on Rosenberg’s program Monday, the pair discussed Super Bowl LVII, Lebron James pursuing Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s scoring record, and memories from their years together.

Kaplan serves as a host on 710 ESPN Los Angeles. He also owns a company called Sided, a social debate platform where users and influencers are rewarded for their contributions.
