Joe Buck: Getting Out Of The Way For Kevin Burkhardt & Joe Davis Gave Me Great Pleasure

This past Sunday marked the first FOX Sports presentation of the Super Bowl without Joe Buck on play-by-play.

Buck, who moved over to ESPN to be the voice of Monday Night Football, appeared on The Michael Kay Show on Thursday and said it was a little awkward watching the FOX broadcast without him there. But Buck had nothing but positive things to say about Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen in the booth.

“They did a great job which I knew they would,” Buck said. “They were in great hands with Rich Russo our director and Richie Zyontz our producer. And those guys are friends of mine.”

Buck added that he was happy to see everyone succeed including Joe Davis, who called the World Series on FOX last year.

“I’m just proud of them,” he said. “I said it at the time when I moved over to ESPN to get out of the way of somebody like Kevin and to get out of the way of somebody like Joe on the baseball side was the untalked-about silver lining. It was something that gave me great pleasure.”

“Everything moves on, and they’ve moved on. And I’ve moved on. And Troy’s moved on,” Buck said. “And I think everybody’s happy with what they have and where they are.”

Joe said the awkwardness in watching the broadcast came from all those years of experience. He thought Burkhardt and Olsen did very well in their first Super Bowl.

“I know what it’s like to stand there and welcome a hundred million people to the audience and to their TV sets,” he said. “It comes with a lot of pressure, and I thought they were great and the game was great.”
