Matt Steinmetz: Kevin Harlan Had Genius Call of Draymond Green, Dillon Brooks Fight

Broadcaster Kevin Harlan was courtside in Memphis last week when Dillon Brooks of the Grizzlies and Draymond Green of the Warriors went nose to nose during a game.

Harlan was calling the contest for TNT, and in the heat of the moment seeing the 2nd quarter exchange, mentioned the war of words the two players had in the lead-up to the game.

On 95.7 The Game in San Francisco Friday afternoon, host Matt Steinmetz told Harlan how great he thought Harlan’s “they’re discussing the podcast” line.

“I’ve always wanted to pick the mind of a genius,” Steinmetz said Friday on Steiny and Guru. He asked if Harlan had prepared for any sort of dust-up between Green and Brooks, but Kevin said he just observed things as they happened organically.

“I’ve always kind of believed that you don’t plan things in your head,” Harlan said. “You know storylines clearly because we had read about Draymond’s comments in the podcasts on Brooks, they addressed it pre-game with the horde of media and so I mean it was in there. But that did not cross my mind until it happened.”

Harlan added that Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said in pre-game meetings that he didn’t anticipate anything happening between the two. So he didn’t have the podcast line in his back pocket.

“I’m not that smart number one,” Harlan said. “And I don’t even know if it was that good of a comment.”

“You got a chuckle out here,” Steinmetz responded.
