Inside with Jen Psaki launches Sunday, and the host is making the rounds to promote her new MSNBC show.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Psaki was asked about the comparisons between Fox News and MSNBC, with Colbert asking if the former White House Press Secretary would say things on the air she didn’t believe.
“I think this is an important piece to dive into because MSNBC has a very high standard of what is factual,” Psaki said. “You have to go through a process before you report things on air to make sure they are factual and you have sources. That is how news should work. Now you can have informed opinion, which is what. I will share and what others will share, informed experiences, informed perspective.
“That is an important part of reporting as well. But there is a huge difference between going out there reporting things that are inaccurate, knowingly reporting they’re inaccurate, and sharing perspective.”
The discussion is an obvious aside about the Fox News scandal that saw hosts and executives welcome attorneys for former President Donald Trump to espouse unproven claims about the 2020 presidential election. During its defamation lawsuit against the cable channel, Dominion Voting Systems uncovered messages revealing many at the network did not believe the claims from Trump’s legal team but feared a loss in viewership to rival networks should it not present the arguments.
In the case, Dominion is seeking $1.6 billion in damages.
“Dominion’s lawsuit has always been more about what will generate headlines than what can withstand legal and factual scrutiny,” a Fox News spokesperson told Barrett News Media, “as illustrated by them now being forced to slash their fanciful damages demand by more than half a billion dollars after their own expert debunked its implausible claims.”
