It appears that flex scheduling for Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video is going to happen, but it ultimately might not make the game itself any more watchable than what was originally scheduled.
The proposal, which would be voted on at the next NFL owners meeting, would allow Amazon to flex games for Weeks 14-17. This according to Andrew Marchand at the New York Post.
But the catch is that Amazon would actually get last pick of games considering ESPN is also going to be able to flex games in and out of Monday nights.
Both FOX and CBS would be able to protect one game in that window from being flexed. But Amazon wouldn’t get to pick a game to flex until both NBC and ESPN have decided if they want to swap games out.
That means the top four games would be off the board each week by the time Amazon and the NFL decided if it was moving a game from Sunday to Thursday.
Amazon is in year two of its exclusive deal with the NFL as the home for Thursday Night Football. The tech giant’s maiden season in 2022 was met with mixed reviews when it came to its schedule of games, as matchups typically featured some of the worst teams in the league. The idea is to hopefully be able to add a compelling game late in the season as the playoff race heats up.
