ESPN Expects To Use Matt Miller More on Future NFL Drafts

When it comes to the NFL Draft, it is easy to say that a star was born. That is the goal of everyone participating, after all. When it comes to ESPN though, the network may have found its future in Matt Miller.

Miller joined the network’s coverage on day 3. It was reportedly the idea of Mel Kiper Jr. Seth Markman, ESPN’s VP of Production, is glad he listened.

“At first, he might have been a little too deferential to Mel and Todd and maybe he felt like, ‘Do I really belong here?’ But quickly, I think he got more comfortable and then did exactly what we expected for him to do and fit right in,” Markman told The Athletic. “As the players went, those guys kind of took turns on talking about each of the players and had some good back-and-forth.”

ESPN added Matt Miller to its roster in 2021. Last year, he became a part of the network’s full-time staff.

He had been used on a number of ESPN studio shows in the past. Kansas City was the first time he was on-site for the NFL Draft. It sounds like it won’t be the last one either.

“We spoke briefly at the end and he’s like, ‘Now I get it, I’m ready for Detroit.’ The plan is to bring him back for Detroit,” Markman said referring to the 2024 NFL Draft.
