Bill Handel: Tucker Carlson’s ‘Breach of Contract’ Claim is ‘A Crock’

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has reportedly had his representation send an “aggressive letter” to his former cable news home alleging it breached his contract. Meanwhile, KFI’s Bill Handel isn’t buying it.

During his morning show Wednesday, Handel argued that Carlson’s defense that Fox News violated his right to free speech doesn’t hold up.

“He’s saying it’s his First Amendment right, which, by the way, is a crock,” Handel said. “A network hiring someone can say ‘Will you stay away from politics? Yes or No? You cannot mention us in a derogatory fashion’…All things considered, Carlson doesn’t have much of a case. That’s my take on it. The way these stories are being written he’s being offered jaw-dropping sums to go on these other cable shows.”

Handel then marveled at the idea that averaging over 3 million viewers — like Carlson routinely did with his primetime program — makes for one of the highest-rated programs on cable television.

“Can you imagine that with 3 million viewers you’re on top of the world? It used to be 25 or 30 or 40 million viewers to make yourself a hit,” argued Handel. “Welcome to cable, right?”
