After the April firing of Tucker Carlson, Fox News has slumped in the ratings. Howie Carr believes that’s due to a lack of star power on the network.
During his “Chump Line” segment featuring voicemails from callers Monday, The Howie Carr Show host played a voicemail from a listener decrying the report that Fox News sent a cease and desist letter to Carlson in an attempt to end his Tucker on Twitter series.
That is when Carr argued that Fox News likely understood that it was losing its central star, but didn’t realize it lacked a logical replacement for Carlson.
“I think they did this deliberately, though. I think they knew they were gonna take a hit,” Carr said. “Maybe they didn’t know were going to take this big of a hit. They had to know that — when you get right down to it — they really don’t have a deep bench. They have some decent utility players, but no real stars beyond Tucker. I don’t think. Maybe Greg Gutfeld, but that’s about it.”
After previously averaging more than 3 million viewers in Carlson’s 8:00 PM ET window, Fox News now routinely sees roughly half that figure with its rotating guest host structure.
