Days after eyebrow-raising comments, Disney CEO Bob Iger is reassuring his deputies — especially at ABC and ABC News — about their status with the company.
Reporting for his Reliable Sources newsletter, CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy claimed Iger held an off-site meeting with executives to assuage fears about a potential sale of ABC and other linear television networks.
During this meeting, according to Darcy, Iger reaffirmed his admiration for news coverage and his commitment to ABC News.
“I’m ridiculously passionate about news,” Iger reportedly said. “It’s important to this company. We need to figure out how it makes the transition into streaming. And I happen to believe we will endure. It’s too good, it’s too important, and it’s really fun.”
However, a Disney source told Darcy they are taking Iger’s words with a grain of salt.
“It’s great to say he loves the jewel. It’s great to say that the jewel is important. It’s great to say that the jewel is fun. But he has revealed the truth: he wants to get the highest price he can for the jewel because he can’t afford it anymore.”
