Chuck Freimund Returning to KFIZ as Sports Director

Chuck Freimund is making a return to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin as the sports director of KFIZ, the station has announced. Freimund formerly worked at the station from 1996 to 2005 and is going to be bringing his talent and experience back to the station’s airwaves.

During the week, he will be anchoring local sports reports on KFIZ Today and host the daily sports program, KFIZ Sports Tonight. When high school basketball season resumes, he will be the station’s lead play-by-play announcer.

On Friday nights, Freimund will host Football Friday Tonight from 9:30 to 11 p.m. CST, supplementing the commentary team of Nick Van Nocker and Shawn Kiser. Before the start of the football broadcasts, Freimund will be joined by Van Nocker to host an extensive pregame show featuring news, analysis and interviews to prepare fans for the matchup at hand.

Freimund officially returns to the station on Monday, Aug. 14, ahead of the start of high school football season. When the station divulged the information over the air, Freimund appeared and emphasized the importance of covering local sports and serving as an outlet for the community.

“KFIZ’s all about Fond du Lac and the Fond du Lac area,” Freimund said. “We’re going to continue to build on that and what we’ve done…. Just trying to build on all those great people that have worked here because this is a special place, KFIZ. This isn’t some rinky-dink radio station in the middle of nowhere. This is one of the first radio stations in our country [and] a hallmark radio station.”

“Chuck brings years of valuable experience to the team and is the perfect person to lead KFIZ’s coverage of high school sports,” Randy Hopper, the president and owner of Mountain Dog Media, said in a statement.

Outside of the station, Friedmund hosts the Locked On Brewers podcast with the Locked On Podcast Network and contributes to various media outlets in the city of Milwaukee.
