Linda Yaccarino Refutes Bloomberg Report On Rise of ‘Toxic’ Twitter Content

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino is pushing back on a story from Bloomberg that claimed the social media platform has seen a rise in “toxic” content.

A Bloomberg report authored by Aisha Counts and Eari Nakano claims a “surge” in “harmful content” is an issue for prospective advertisers looking to work with Twitter. The report alleges that content moderation policies put in place by Elon Musk after his purchase of the platform “has led to a dramatic spike in hateful, violent, and inaccurate posts”.

In a tweet addressing the topic, Yaccarino claimed Bloomberg’s story is “not true”. She added that what “more than 99% of content users and advertisers see on Twitter is healthy”.

“The Bloomberg story pulled together a collection of incorrect, misleading, and outdated metrics, mostly from the period shortly after Twitter’s acquisition,” wrote Yaccarino. “It also lacks extremely important context not to mention critical updates on our progress and actions.”

“Every other platform will tell you the work is never done. That’s true for them and for Twitter. But Twitter’s progress is real, we’ve been transparent about it, and we’re proud of it. And we just wanted you to know the facts,” Yaccarino continued.
