CNN announced a new primetime lineup Monday morning, and it did not get the Clay Travis stamp of approval.
During The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, Travis argued that the network lacks the star power it once featured.
“It’s like CNN isn’t even trying anymore now,” Travis said, before denigrating the new primetime lineup additions of Abby Phillip and Laura Coates. “This is now the new CNN primetime and they’re talking about ‘Oh look out. They’ve got four women hosting by themselves and then Anderson Cooper’.
“I look at this — I mean, they have no star power. They have no ability to really kind of move the needle. It’s like they’re just going ahead and tossing the dirt on the grave of CNN as an impactful news organization.”
Sexton agreed, claiming the network has “as much journalistic gusto” as HSN. He argued, however, that CNN had purpose as an anti-Trump network, but has lost that distinction.
“That was the only reason CNN was even putting on shows,” Sexton claimed. “That was it, right? Why does it exist now? I don’t know if they can try to fully turn it around. If they wanted to make an anti-Trump network, they probably have to either bring on some people from other places or hire back some of the people that they have fired. I mean, if you want an anti-Trump network, you want Don Lemon, right? You want some of these individuals. Chris Cuomo. Those were their big stars, and they were the most outspoken attackers against Donald Trump.”
