Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) wrote an op-ed in the Brainerd (MN) Dispatch strongly defending keeping AM Radio in automobiles.
In her show of support for the AM For Every Vehicle Act, Klobuchar said that while some executives at automobile manufacturers may not have a need for AM Radio, “I bet if they took a drive through rural Minnesota, they would take a different view.”
“When there was flooding in Crookston in 2021 and 2022, KROX radio was there to help,” Klobuchar added. “Working in partnership with the city’s Emergency Operations Center to share the latest about the flooding, including information about road closures and the opening of a storm shelter where residents could turn for assistance.”
“We shouldn’t have to sacrifice safety, news, and a way of life simply because some car manufacturers want to make more profits. Let’s get this passed,” Klobuchar concluded.
Introduced by Senators Ed Markley (D-MA) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), The AM for Every Vehicle Act has received widespread, bipartisan support in Congress.
Additionally, it has been endorsed by the NAB and several members of the FCC. After passing through the Senate Commerce Committee, it will be eligible to be voted on by the legislature as a whole when it returns from its August recess.
