Marcus Spears Inks Extension with ESPN

ESPN has announced that Marcus Spears has re-signed with the network ahead of his Monday Night Countdown regular season debut from MetLife Stadium on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. EST/3 p.m. PST. The revamped cast of the show includes new host Scott Van Pelt, analysts Ryan Clark, Robert Griffin III, insider Adam Schefter and features reporter Michelle Beisner-Buck. Spears will also continue to appear on NFL Live as part of the deal, along with shows including Get Up, First Take and SportsCenter.

Spears first joined ESPN in 2014 after retiring from professional football, and he helped launch the SEC Network as a member of SEC Nation and co-host of Thinking Out Loud. During his time on the LSU Tigers, Spears was named an All-American and won a BCS National Championship, making a critical interception in the contest that lives in sports lore.

As his time at ESPN went on, he began to cover signature events such as the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff National Championship. Over the last several years, Spears has contributed to more National Football League-based content, utilizing his insight and expertise after playing in the NFL for nine years as a defensive end.

Spears played under head coach Nick Saban, who led the team for five seasons before a brief stint in the NFL and eventual signing with the University of Alabama. Saban will be making a weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show as speculation swirls about his future after this season ends as the team looks to capture a National Championship for the first time in three years.
