The Walt Disney Company could be looking to sell ABC, and there’s a potential buyer already lined up to begin early talks over a possible sale.
Bloomberg reported on Thursday that Nexstar Media Group and Disney are in the preliminary stage and have not focused on a potential sale price over ABC. The outlet added that Nexstar is only interested in acquiring the television station if the price is right.
Furthermore, this news comes as the media and Wall Street have speculated that Disney might sell ABC and its other television properties. Nexstar is a prominent player in the local news industry. However, in recent years, it’s elevated its profile to national media.
The company recently launched NewsNation and purchased digital outlet The Hill, so going after ABC would further grow its national profile.
It will be interesting to see how a possible sale could affect Disney’s other properties, such as ESPN. The sports media giant has many of its live sports telecasts simulcast on ABC.
