With the news that Disney is considering selling ABC to Nexstar, many have questioned the future of network television. 710 WOR host Mark Simone says there are no questions about its future.
During The Mark Simone Show Friday, the longtime New York host noted that many have claimed AM radio is on its deathbed. However, he shared a statistic that would shock those who believe the band should be removed from automobiles.
“These TV networks are sinking,” Simone said. “They don’t mean much anymore, big TV networks like ABC, CBS, or NBC. Not a lot of viewers anymore. Did you know all of network TV is down to 25 million people? That’s it. 25 million people watching network TV. 58 million listen to AM talk radio.
“So network TV is having a hard time, especially at night. Primetime — that’s where they made all their money. That’s gone. In primetime now, you’re streaming or you’re watching everything else except network TV.”
