WFAN Maintains Big Lead in New York Summer Ratings Book

New York’s summer ratings book is out, and once again, WFAN was in the driver’s seat. Be advised that all of the numbers listed throughout this piece are for Men 25-54.

Starting with morning drive, WFAN’s Boomer & Gio featuring Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti, finished as the top overall morning show in the market with an 11.2 share. That figure is slightly up from the 11.1 it garnered in the spring book, when it also finished 1st.

WFAN revamped its midday and afternoon lineups during the summer ratings period after the departure of afternoon host Craig Carton, which means this was the first look at how the two new weekday programs performed. For Chris Oliviero and Spike Eskin, the results were exactly what they hoped for.

In middays, the new pairing of Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata secured a 6.7 share, good for 2nd in the market. The station’s previous show – Tiki & Tierney – saw a 4th-place finish during the spring with a 5.7 share.

Meanwhile, in afternoons, Evan & Tiki, featuring afternoon holdover Evan Roberts and new partner Tiki Barber, continued its advantage over The Michael Kay Show. The new WFAN program generated a 6.2 share, down slightly from the 7.0 it received from Carton & Roberts, but still good enough for a tie for 3rd place.

For ESPN New York 98.7, the morning pairing of Rick DiPietro and Dave Rothenberg saw a big jump in overall ranking, finishing 8th for the quarter with a 3.9 share. In the spring, the show ranked 13th with a 3.2 share.

Moving to middays, the station splits programming between the nationally syndicated ESPN Radio offering #Greeny with Mike Greenberg and a local show hosted by Bart Scott and Alan Hahn. The daypart maintained its 14th place finish from the spring book, falling slightly from a 2.4 share to a 2.2.

Closing things out in afternoons, The Michael Kay Show increased in both share and ranking. The program featuring Kay alongside co-hosts Don LaGreca and Peter Rosenberg grew to a 3.6 share compared to its 3.2 spring book showing. That uptick moved it to 12th in the ratings compared to its 14th place finish in the spring book.
