Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg have hosted The Michael Kay Show this week as Kay calls MLB Postseason games for ESPN. A famous New York sports fan gave the pair props after Tuesday’s show.
To begin the program Wednesday, La Greca shared that while driving, he uses the text-to-voice feature on his phone to read text messages while he keeps his eyes on the road. However, Tuesday’s text began with “Hey, Don. It’s Billy Crystal”.
“He wanted to compliment the way we handled the Giant debacle as he put it,” La Greca shared. “One of the worst games he said he’s ever seen. Everybody thinks of Billy as a Yankee fan. He’s also a huge Giant fan.”
Don La Greca then shared that he and Crystal texted throughout dinner with his family, noting that his wife never really seemed all that interested in his work, until Crystal took notice.
“She’s never impressed by anything that I do,” La Greca said. “She loves me, she respects me, and she’s proud of me. But when I come home and say ‘I had a great monologue’ or ‘I met this athlete’ or that? Whatever. You think she’d been tolerating me texting during dinner? But because it’s Billy Crystal, she’s like, ‘Did you text him back? Did you text them back?’ If I’m texting with (Rosenberg), she’s like “Get off the phone and ask your kids how school was’.”
Rosenberg then revealed that he had actually given La Greca’s phone number to Crystal after the famous actor and comedian reached out to him about the day’s show.
“The only reason I’m saying that is not to get credit. It’s just to let you know how much better person I am the Michael (Kay),” Rosenberg joked. “Because Michael would hoard it, keep it to himself because he wants to win the whole ‘Who has the biggest name and their phone?’ game.”
The recognition of La Greca’s text conversation with Billy Crystal wasn’t the only newsworthy item from The Michael Kay Show Wednesday. La Greca — known for his fiery rants — unleashed on New York Giants offensive lineman Evan Neal for his comments about Giants fans in a clip that has subsequently went viral.
