X, formerly Twitter, is making two changes that are generating talking points on the platform and elsewhere. Erick Erickson has shared his displeasure with the moves.
The first change is the social media outlet has stopped showing headlines on articles shared on the platform. Now, X/Twitter only shows an article’s lead image and a link to the story.
The next move that Elon Musk plans for the platform is removing the ability to see interaction counts (likes, reposts, and comments) from posts on the timeline.
As a result, these changes have many expressing strong opinions on the direction that X is taking. Radio host Erick Erickson believes that Musk continues to take the wrong steps to hold onto users.
“Every time you get on Twitter now, Elon Musk has screwed up something else to try to keep people on the site,” Erickson wrote on X. “He fundamentally doesn’t understand his own site, as he renders it less useful to those who want to come be on it.”
These changes come on the heels of the platform’s ad revenue declining since Musk took over late last year. Whether or not big national brands will return or spend more on ads due to these changes remains to be seen.
