Former Syracuse head basketball coach Jim Boeheim is nearing an agreement to join ESPN and Westwood One as a college basketball analyst.
According to a report from college basketball inside Jon Rothstein, Boeheim is in the final stages of completing a deal to work with ESPN as both a game and studio analyst for the 2023-2024 college basketball season.
Additionally, Boeheim will work as a radio analyst during the 2024 NCAA Tournament and Championship Week for radio rights holder Westwood One.
The 78-year-old recently completed his college basketball coaching career. He served as the head men’s basketball coach at Syracuse for 47 years, winning a national championship in 2003, and coaching the Orange to five Final Four appearances during his tenure.
Earlier this year, ESPN Syracuse fired longtime market staple Brent Axe for what it called “negative coverage” surrounding the school’s athletic programs. Axe has alleged that Boeheim, who is an investor into the station’s parent company, likely played a role in his firing.
After his coaching career concluded, Galaxy Media CEO and President Ed Levine announced Jim Boeheim would play a more prominent role with the station once his career concluded. Details remain sparse on what Boeheim’s role — if any at all — will include on ESPN Syracuse.
