Longtime South Carolina Gamecocks broadcaster and Columbia sports talk host Tommy Moody has died.
Moody served as the color analyst on Gamecocks baseball broadcasts since 2000. Additionally, he hosted shows on 107.5 The Game in Columbia. He co-hosted the midday show with Jay Phillips until 2022, when he cut back his schedule to a twice-weekly evening program. The Tommy Moody Show was self-described as a “trip down memory lane every week. It aired on Mondays and Thursdays. He was also part of the station’s high school football coverage.
“I am devastated to learn of the passing of my dear friend Tommy Moody,” Phillips wrote on X, previously Twitter. “He was an amazing father, grandfather, friend and colleague. His love of Carolina was immense, but his love for his family was so much greater. We love you Tommy. Thank you for gracing our lives.”
107.5 The Game added to the sentiments, stating “Our hearts are broken. Tommy Moody was an utmost gentleman in every aspect. He treated everyone like a friend and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His passion for the Gamecocks will never be matched. We love you Tommy and we are going to miss you dearly.”
The station’s morning show producer Jen Jensen tweeted a video of Moody’s desk to show off all of the documents he had kept from decades of covering sports locally.
In addition to his radio work, Moody was a fixture in the South Carolina community, serving as the President of the USC Association of Lettermen and Chairman of the USC Athletic Hall of Fame.
