Yesterday afternoon, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo declared he would “retire on the spot” if the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in both Games 6 and 7. Well, Arizona is only one win away, and WFAN morning host Gregg Giannotti doesn’t believe for a second the Radio Hall of Famer will step aside.
During Boomer & Gio Tuesday, Giannotti argued that it’s clear Mad Dog has no intention of honoring the bet he made during his SiriusXM Radio show.
“I mean, that’s such an empty promise. I don’t think he’ll retire. Of course not,” said Gregg Giannotti. “Everybody’s sending me this whole thing and I get it. It’s funny, but at the same time, it’s like such an empty thing. He’s not gonna retire. He’s gonna just walk away because of a stupid thing he said during his radio show? No! I mean, I wish he would have done something different. Some bet he could have actually lost or had fun with or whatever. But I don’t think he’s gonna retire.”
“Imagine putting your career on the arm of Ranger Suarez,” update anchor Jerry Recco joked.
During Mad Dog Unleashed Monday, Russo said he would leave his profession if the Diamondbacks win, which was widely circulated on social media. However, he immediately reneged on that declaration, instead claiming he would skip his son Tim’s first game as an assistant college basketball coach at the Division I level with Northern Arizona on Monday, November 6th, should the Diamondbacks make it to the World Series.
