Angelo Cataldi: I Had to Rediscover My Identity After Leaving 94 WIP

Legendary 94 WIP morning host Angelo Cataldi returned to the Philadelphia sports station Wednesday morning for the first time and was open and honest about his life after stepping away earlier this year.

Cataldi joined Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie for the entire 9 AM hour Wednesday as part of his promotion for his upcoming book.

The longtime morning host was asked by DeCamara if he was happy in retirement, but Cataldi couldn’t answer with a resounding yes.

“That would be a stretch because I’ve never been happy and I’m not going to start now,” Cataldi admitted. “The first two months was bliss.”

Angelo Cataldi then joked that he had to work tirelessly on his book, because he was afraid that if he didn’t get the publication out the same year he retired “no one will remember who the hell I was”. He added that he wrote 2,500 words per day for seven straight weeks to get the book done.

However, completing the book was a double-edged sword, according to the former host.

“I had a rough few months because then my life was purposeless,” Cataldi revealed. “I sought the relief of a therapist. I brought him into my life. This is what was really interesting because, Jon, you dealt with this. You’re a serious football player for the first half of your life. And then, boom, it’s over, right? What’s your identity? And you have that period where you don’t know who you are. You go ‘Oh, what do I do now?’

“I have finally learned how to relax and how to embrace a life without so much stress,” continued Cataldi. “And that is cool. It takes a while to get used to it. But I went to a period where I couldn’t sleep for a couple of weeks. I woke up at exactly three o’clock every day and started to plan the show. And then said, Wow, maybe I should just send these notes to DeCamara, he’s actually doing it.”
