Ken Carman: I’ll Defend Al Michaels To The End

Amazon Prime Video Thursday Night Football voice Al Michaels has taken an increasing amount of criticism in recent weeks for a perceived lack of enthusiasm about the games. 92.3 The Fan’s Ken Carman argues he’ll continue to back and defend the legendary broadcaster.

During The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima, the pair discussed the criticism of Michaels, with Carman saying he’s entrenched in his opinion on the matter.

“I defended Al Michaels earlier this year and I continue to defend on Michaels to this moment,” Carman said. “I defend Al. Michaels I love Al Michaels, and I’ll defend him to the end.”

In addition to his work with 92.3 The Fan, Anthony Lima is a television play-by-play broadcaster for ESPN+ and Spectrum Sports, and questioned whether him being excited as he is during broadcasts makes him right or Michaels incorrect in his current role.

“I guess I wonder like when I’m doing Akron football, I am getting 10 decibels higher,” Lima said. “My question is, am I showing too much excitement for Akron football in the Mid-American Conference?”

Carman called it a fantastic question before boiling it down to each broadcaster having individual styles. The question from Lima came after playing a highlight of Michaels announcing a punt return where he misidentified the player. Lima called the play “electrifying” before noting that the tone from Michaels did not meet the moment.
