NBC News initiated layoffs of “several dozens” of staffers, commencing on Thursday. TVNewser reports that these layoffs span various departments and are not confined to a single team.
As per the report, the company has informed the affected employees about the layoffs, offered them a severance package, provided outplacement assistance, and given them a 60-day notice period before their employment ends.
Puck’s Dylan Byers reported that fewer than 100 employees, out of a staff of thousands, will be affected.
Although job eliminations have occurred, NBC News currently has approximately 150 new and open positions the company intends to fill. Those laid-off employees are urged to apply for these available roles.
Recent industry changes have compelled media companies to realign their resources, resulting in downsizing. NBC News is currently experiencing this trend, and can expect personnel changes at other media companies and networks in 2024, particularly as the shift from linear to digital gains momentum.
